Cookies and local storage
Every cookie and every item stored in your browser, one by one: what it is for, how long it stays, and how to delete it.
Overview
1. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small text file your browser stores at the site’s request and sends back with later requests. Local storage (localStorage, sessionStorage) is similar but stays in your browser and is not sent to the server by itself. Strictly necessary cookies and storage do not require consent (under section 155(4) of Hungarian Act C of 2003 on electronic communications), but we must tell you about them.
2. Cookies
| Name | What it is for | How long it stays |
|---|---|---|
| vl_session | Keeps you logged in. It only contains a random identifier, and scripts in the browser cannot read it. | at most 60 days; the session expires after 14 days of inactivity; deleted when you log out |
| vl_csrf | A security code that proves a request really comes from the VágyLak site. | together with the session, at most 60 days |
| vl_device | A random device identifier: we recognise browsers you have used before, and email you if someone logs in to your account from a new device. | 400 days |
| vl_age_ok | Remembers that you confirmed you are over 18, so we do not ask on every page. | 30 days |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers which language you use the site in. | until you close the browser |
| vl_ref | Only if you arrived through someone’s invite link: stores the invite code so your sign-up counts for the person who invited you. It contains nothing about you. | 30 days; deleted when you sign up |
3. Data stored in your browser
| Key | What it is for | How long it stays |
|---|---|---|
| vl_exact_location | Remembers that you turned on exact location for finding members nearby. It does not store the location itself. | until you turn it off or clear your browser data |
| vl_tour_v1 | Remembers that you finished the welcome tour. | until you clear your browser data |
| vl:plan-banner-closed | Remembers when you closed the plan banner, so we do not show it again for 7 days. | until you clear your browser data |
| vl:unlocked-at (session storage) | If you set an unlock PIN: when you unlocked, so we do not ask again within 5 minutes. | until you close the browser tab |
4. Other providers
- Cloudflare: traffic to the site goes through Cloudflare’s network. At sign-up, on the data request form for authorities, and at login when needed, the Cloudflare Turnstile bot check runs from Cloudflare’s own domain; it processes technical data from your browser (such as IP address and browser characteristics) to filter out bots. It does not set cookies on the VágyLak domain.
- Push notifications: if you turn them on, your browser creates a subscription, and your browser vendor’s push service delivers the notifications. You can turn them off at any time in Settings and in your browser.
- SumUp: card payments happen on SumUp’s side: for Flames and Featured messages on SumUp’s own page, for subscriptions on our Card payment page, where SumUp’s card form loads from SumUp’s domain (gateway.sumup.com). The form only runs on that page; SumUp handles the card details and the technical data needed for it (such as IP address and browser characteristics), and SumUp explains the cookies and storage it uses.
5. How to delete them
You can delete or block cookies and local storage at any time in your browser settings. Logging out deletes the login cookies. If you block the cookies needed for the site to work, logging in and some features will not work.
